In 2002 the Navigator of the Seas joined the Royal Caribbean Cruises fleet of ships and took the mantle of the largest cruise ship in the world. Although she is a Voyager class of ship, she is slightly heavier at 138,279 tons than Voyager of the Seas and Explorer of the Seas. In effect she is the first of the second wave of the Voyager class of ship and was followed by Adventure of the Seas and Mariner of the Seas.
Navigator of the Seas is one of Royal Caribbean Cruises most popular Voyager Class ships and as such is sent to Europe most summers to offer the unique cruise experience that is associated with Royal Caribbean. In 2009 Navigator will be cruising from both Barcelona and Civitavecchia offering two popular seven night cruises.
The Americans introduced the term Godmother to the naming ceremony of cruise ships and with Navigator of the Seas this was no different; her Godmother being the German Tennis player Steffi Graf.
