The Oasis of the Seas is the next ship due in the Royal Caribbean Cruises fleet and is categorised as an Oasis Class ship being part of Project Genesis. She weighs in at 220,000 gross tons and is 1,181 feet (360m) in length. With sixteen decks, she is 213 feet (65m) above the water line. Cruising speed will be around 20.2 knots (37.4km) an hour and her passenger capacity is 5,400. Royal Caribbean splashed out $1.2 billion (EUR 755 million) which they will hope she will start to recoup when she sets out on her maiden voyage planned for December 2008. Oasis of the Seas will become the largest passenger ship in the world and she will operate out of Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, undertaking Caribbean cruises.
A new and feature to cruising will be the fact that Oasis of the Seas will have seven neighbourhoods on board of which five have officially been unveiled to the public: Boardwalk; Royal Promenade; Central Park; Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness Centre and Pool and Sports Zone.
There will be a number of other initiatives such as a zip-line cable suspended 9 decks above the Boardwalk, two rock climbing walls, two-level loft suites and an AquaTheater which will host performances and numerous activities as well as being the largest freshwater pool at sea.
Popular features such as the adults-only solarium will remain but will be repositioned to the bow of the ship. The Solarium Bistro will be available to serve healthy breakfasts and lunches and can be transformed in the evening for poolside dinners.
These are just a few of the fantastic features on board Oasis of the Seas and Royal Caribbean will be happy that initial sales have been record breaking since tickets went on sale in September 2008. That demand will no doubt continue for this wonderful cruise ship.
